New Volvo EM90 – The Scandinavian-Inspired First Electric Luxury Car

Oct 25, 2023

In the ever-evolving landscape of automotive technology, Volvo has consistently been at the forefront of innovation with brand-new vehicles and technology systems being added to their already impressive arsenal. The latest addition to their lineup is the Volvo EM90, a vehicle created to completely redefine the driving experience.

The first thing that you will probably notice about the EM90 is that it is incredibly spacious both in and outside of the vehicle. Volvo really wanted to capitalize on a spacious interior and give riders the most comfortable experience they possibly could. Cabin width and legroom are both generously provided, setting the tone for a luxurious trip. The EM90 is essentially a living room on wheels.

When asked about the inspiration for the EM90, Sophie Li, director of Volvo’s Design Studio in Shanghai, said, “We envisioned a space of personal comfort, an abode of style and elegance that serves the dual purpose of business utility and family travel.” The team of designers and engineers was inspired to create an environment that accommodates both individual and group activities.

One of our favourite aspects of the interior is that each of the six passengers will have their own private compartment, equipped with a range of entertainment and comfort options accessed via a sleek touchscreen, providing access to apps and entertainment with ease.

Special lounge seats in the second row have a massaging function, individual ventilation and heating choices, built-in tables, and cupholders for added comfort and convenience. The chairs include zero-gravity cushions with a seven-layer design, 120mm in thickness, and high-density layers for both comfort and support, providing unrivaled levels of both.

In terms of performance, Volvo’s first luxury van will have the best range of any model in their EV lineup. The EM90 will have a range of 738km which is the equivalent of just over 450 miles, whereas the likes of a Tesla Model S has under 400. The EM90’s long range comes from a CATL-sourced 116-KW battery which can be recharged from 10 to 80 percent in around half an hour’s time, making it perfect for long road trips.

The EM90 is set to debut in China, and prospective owners can mark their calendars for 12 November 2023 to place their pre-orders, however, we can only hope and guess that this model which be tried and tested in Europe in the years to come.
